Currently families of Kiamichi must walk up to 6 hours a day to fetch water from the River for day to day survival. This places terrible strain on their bodies resulting in arthritis, physical abnormalities and fatigue. The land is arid with inability for families to produce crops or maintain livestock, due to lack of water, hence food is scarce with many relying on emergency aid from the Government. This water is not treated and is a major contributor to water born diseases and sanitisation issues for the community. The aim of this project is to bring infrastructure in and bring water to 5000 desperately needy families. This will give them access to domestic water, the ability to irrigate small crops, raise livestock and start to become more self sufficient. Food is lacking. They try to grow crops, but this is impossible due to lack of water. Some families have chickens, but they are bony and lack size. The conditions are harsh and survival is their primary day to day focus.
